DURHAM, N.C. – The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation announced Tuesday that Duke redshirt senior quarterback Quentin Harris has been named a finalist for the 2019 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award®, presented by A.O. Smith.
Established in 1987, the Unitas Award is presented annually to the nation's top college quarterback based on character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments. Candidates must be a college senior or fourth-year junior and on schedule to graduate with their class.
Harris is one of three ACC quarterbacks on the top 20 finalists list joining Bryce Perkins (Virginia) and Anthony Brown (Boston College).
Harris, a 6-1, 200-pound native of Wilton, Conn., has started all five games for the Blue Devils. He holds a 134.71 pass efficiency rating after compiling 1,007 yards and 11 touchdowns on 104-of-161 attempts. The redshirt senior is one of four ACC quarterbacks that has double-digit passing touchdowns this year and sits fifth in the league in completion percentage (66.4 percent).
Along with his arm, Harris has been more than capable with his legs registering 342 yards on 69 carries (5.0). Harris is seventh in the ACC for touchdowns (four) and average rush yards per game (68.4). Against Middle Tennessee and Virginia Tech, Harris recorded back-to-back 100-plus yards rushing.
This is the second consecutive season that the starting Duke quarterback has been placed on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List. Last season, former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones was named to the 2018 Watch List at the beginning of the season.
The 2019 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award®, presented by A. O. Smith will be presented on Wednesday, December 11, in Baltimore, Maryland.
