Breaking Down the Blue Devils
- Duke resumes its ACC schedule Friday against Syracuse. The Blue Devils climbed back into the top 25 at No. 18 following their win over No. 14 North Carolina. A victory over the Orange will put Duke at .500 in league play and potentially put them in the top half of the Coastal Division.
- Senior Daniele Proch is the headliner on offense with seven goals and 16 points overall. He is over halfway to his total of 26 points last season after nine games. Classmate Max Moser has been lethal off the bench in a couple games this season and has a team-best four assists overall. In all, eight different Duke players have a goal this season after Daniel Wright and Brandon Williamson both tallied their firsts at UNC.
- Defensively, Duke started the season with shutouts in three of the first four games before allowing 13 goals in the past five outings to bring its goals against average to 1.44. Duke has a variety of options on defense. The Blue Devils have played both three and four in the back with Sergi Nus and Matthias Frick anchoring in the middle. Ian Murphy and Hassan Pinto have manned the flanks. Most recently Stephen O'Connell stepped in to fill Ian Murphy's role, playing well in the win over North Carolina. In goal, Will Pulisic has an ACC-best 38 saves and a 1.41 goals against average.
