PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- The No. 6 Duke men's golf team is represented on both coasts this week as the Blue Devils will be playing at the Cypress Point Classic at the famed Cypress Point GC in Pebble Beach, Calif., and the Grandover Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
The Cypress Point Classic is a match play event between eight teams for two days of golf overlooking the Pacific Ocean where Duke is the No. 1 seed. The bracket also includes Georgia Tech (No. 2-seed), UCLA (3), Stanford (4), USC (5), Illinois (6), Cal (7) and Alabama (8).
Monday morning's first round pits Duke vs. Alabama, Stanford vs. USC, Georgia Tech vs. Cal and UCLA vs. Illinois for three fourball matches. The winners advance to the semifinals for three foursome matches on Monday afternoon, while Tuesday's championship round is set for six singles matches.
Duke's fourball pairings for Monday will be
Adrien Pendaries and
Steven DiLisio together at 8 a.m. PT versus Davis Shore and Prescott Butler. At 8:12 a.m.,
Quinn Riley and
Qi wen Wong face Bama's Frankie Capen and Thomas Ponder.
Evan Katz and
Chandler Eaton are off at 8:24 a.m. against Wilson Furr and Simms Abney.
The winner of the Duke/Alabama match faces the USC/Stanford winner in the semifinals.
The Blue Devils climbed to No. 6 in the Golfweek ratings after a win at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate last week outside of Atlanta, besting a strong field that included Georgia Tech, USC, Stanford and UCLA.
Back in the eastern time zone, two Blue Devils began play at the Grandover Collegiate in Greensboro on Sunday. The 54-hole event wraps up Monday.
Harrison Taee posted two strong rounds and sits in a tie for third through 36 holes at 2-under 142. The senior's opening-round, two-under 70 was highlighted by five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 sixth. He wrapped up Sunday by shooting an even-par 72 in the second round. He enters Monday's final round just two back of the leader, Tony Jiang (-4) of Rutgers.
Drew Powell is tied for 39th after rounds of 72 and 82 on Sunday as is 10-over 154.
