ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Battling through adverse weather conditions, the No. 10 Duke men's golf team was unphased as it climbed to the top of the leaderboard in the second round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia in suburban Atlanta on Saturday.
Steady rain and cool temperatures made scoring difficult, but the Blue Devils jumped two spots on the team leaderboard from Friday and will take the outright lead into Sunday's final round. Duke posted the low team round of the day, a three-over 291, and is the lone team under par at one-under 575 through 36 holes.
Duke leads, followed by No. 16 Texas A&M (+2), UCLA (+4), No. 9 Pepperdine (+7) and No. 4 Wake Forest (+9) to round out the top five of the 14-team field.
Junior
Adrien Pendaries (69-71=140, -4) is one off the 36-hole lead held by Texas A&M's William Paysse, followed by classmate
Evan Katz (70-71=141, -3) at one stroke back. Pendaries and Katz are the lone two players in the field to each post sub-par rounds on Friday and Saturday.
Pendaries had to right his ship on Saturday, going out in two-over 38 after starting his round on the 10th hole. He kick-started his back-nine with an eagle on the par-5 first hole, then birdied the fourth and ninth to card a three-under 33 on the back and signed for his 71.
Katz also started on the 10th, going out in 35 with birdies on the 10th, 15th and 18th and coming home in even-par 36.
Senior
Steven DiLisio has also enjoyed two strong days of golf and is just two strokes back of Katz after his even-par 72 on Saturday. The senior is one-under for the tournament and in a tie for seventh. DiLisio made amends for bogeys on the 10th and 16th by making birdies on the first and second to finish even-par in Saturday's rain.
Senior
Chandler Eaton is tied for 48th at seven-over 151, while junior
Qi wen Wong is tied for 65th at 11-over 155.
Sunday's final round has the Blue Devils paired with Texas A&M and UCLA, with the trio of teams set to tee off at 10:50 a.m. ET. Hole by hole scoring is available at golfstat.com with the Blue Devils looking for their first team win of the 2019-20 season.
