DURHAM, N.C.—A pair of former Blue Devils and current men's lacrosse head coach
John Danowski will don a different set of colors this weekend as they represent the United States in the 2019 Fall Classic from Oct. 18-20 at US Lacrosse headquarters.
Duke stars
Will Haus and
Myles Jones are among the 27 players selected by Danowski and the U.S. coaching staff. Haus was a member of the 2018 squad that won gold at the World Lacrosse championship last summer in Netanya, Israel.
The U.S. men's team will open competition Friday, Oct. 18 against rival Canada at 8 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the two since the U.S. squad pulled off a thrilling 9-8 last-second victory to win gold. The United States also will play reigning NCAA Champion Virginia Oct. 19 and will wrap up the weekend with an exhibition game against Canada using the trial rules developed by World Lacrosse.
Danowski signed on for a second term as the head coach of the U.S. men's senior national team last fall. It marked the first time in the history of the U.S. men's program a coach will have served as head coach for more than one term. Three coaches have done so on the women's side.
Both Haus and Jones recently finished their inaugural seasons in the Premier Lacrosse League. Haus, a defensive midfielder for Chrome, played in 11 games overall and scored four goals and picked up 21 ground balls.
Jones helped lead Chaos to the regular season title with a 7-3 overall record. In his nine regular-season outings, Duke's top scoring midfielder all time registered seven goals and 10 assists for 18 points. In the two postseason games, he chipped in two goals and an assist.
Advance tickets for the Fall Classic, which also features the U.S. women's national team, Canada's women's national team and the University of Maryland women's team are just $18 daily or $30 for a weekend pass that provides access to all six games at US Lacrosse on Friday and Saturday.
