DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman offensive tackle Jacob Monk has been named to The Athletic's midseason freshman All-America team, announced by the website.
Â
Monk had the unenviable task of starting against Alabama in his first career game, so he got thrown right into the fire as a true freshman. The right tackle survived that battle and has improved ever since for a Blue Devils' offensive line that has given up just one sack per game this season (tied for 10th nationally).
Â
Over the last five games, he and the line have blocked for an offense that racked up 2,120 yards (990 rushing and 1,130 passing). Duke's line also has been strong at preventing tackles for lost yardage. The Blue Devils currently are tied for fourth in the country with 3.50 tackles for loss allowed per game. That same group sits second in the ACC in fourth down conversions (73.3) and third in third down conversions (51.2) as well.
Â
The Blue Devils (4-2, 2-1 ACC) return to action Saturday when they travel to Charlottesville, Va., to face off against ACC foe Virginia (4-2, 2-1). Kickoff at Scott Stadium is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with the game being seen on the ACC Network. Fans can also hear the contest on the Blue Devils IMG Sports Network through the TuneIn app or goduke.com.
