McCaffrey Selected in XFL Draft; Heads to DC Defenders

DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke wide receiver Max McCaffrey was drafted 64th overall in Tuesday's 2020 XFL Draft.

McCaffrey is heading to the DC Defenders under the tutelage of head coach Pep Hamilton.

Duke's leading receiver in 2015, McCaffrey capped his career with 53 games played, 38 starts, 117 receptions for 1,341 yards (11.46 ypc) and 12 touchdowns. The Castle Rock, Colo., product scored 72 points on the 12 scores and one PAT. McCaffrey became the 18th player in Duke history to reach the 100-catch plateau and the 35th to amass 1,000 or more receiving yards.

During his senior season, McCaffrey started all 13 games and carded 52 receptions for 643 yards (12.37 ypc) and five TDs. The totals paced Duke in receptions, receiving yardage and TD grabs. He had a season-high nine catches for 90 yards against Miami and caught six passes for a season-best 94 yards and two TDs at Virginia Tech. McCaffrey added another two-touchdown performance at Wake Forest in the regular season finale. Following his senior year, he represented Duke in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on January 23, 2016.

He began his professional career in the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He spent time with the Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, and San Francisco 49ers.

McCaffrey played in NFL regular season games with both the 49ers (2018) and Jaguars (2017).
