DURHAM, N.C. – After being honored during Sunday's Senior Day ceremonies, Blue Devils
Sammi Steele and
Jillian Wolgemuth have been selected to compete in the 2019 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game Friday, Nov. 22 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The contest will be held at Wake Forest's Kentner Stadium, the site of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
Steele has solidified her place among the top goalkeepers in program history during her redshirt senior season. The Eagleville, Pa., native has been instrumental to the Blue Devils' defensive success with 23 career shutouts to her name and a career goals against average below 1.40. This fall, Steele has anchored a defensive unit that ranks second in the ACC and sixth nationally in goals against average (0.93) heading into the weekend.
Wolgemuth has joined Steele in carrying on Duke's tradition of strong defensive play, helping guide the backfield to six shutouts so far this fall. The Mount Joy, Pa., product is also a key member of the Blue Devils' attack penalty corner unit, recording one goal and one assist so far in 2019. Wolgemuth has started all four seasons and has played in 69 career contests with three goals and four assists in that span.
Steele, Wolgemuth and the fourth-ranked Blue Devils travel to No. 7 Virginia Friday for a 4:30 p.m. contest on
ACCN. Duke then plays at James Madison Sunday.
