Baseball’s Fall Fundraiser Underway

DURHAM, N.C. – With fall practice underway for the Duke baseball team, the Blue Devils are excited to continue their partnership with the Ronald McDonald House of Durham.
For a second consecutive year, the Duke baseball team has pledged to sponsor a guest suite at the Ronald McDonald House in Durham, directly affecting the lives of families who call the room home while their child receives medical treatment at the Duke Children's Hospital.
In conjunction with the West Raleigh Little League, the Blue Devils established a fundraiser to cover the House room costs for one year.
Opening its doors in 1980, the Ronald McDonald House in Durham was the first House in North Carolina and the 13th in the country. It was also the first Ronald McDonald House to open without the support of a professional football team, instead relying on the surrounding community.
This fall's fundraiser is part of Duke baseball's ongoing relationship with the Ronald McDonald House, including team visits to prepare meals for House residents. The Blue Devils and the West Raleigh Little League are set to commemorate the fundraiser's conclusion as part of Duke's Fall World Series on Nov. 16, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The concept of servant leadership has been a cornerstone of the Duke baseball program since Pollard's hire in 2012. In addition to involvement with the Ronald McDonald House, the Blue Devils have taken part in community service efforts with local groups such as the Oxford Housing Authority, Emily K Center, Wounded Warrior, The Miracle League of the Triangle, Curesearch Walk, the Duke Children's Hospital, and the Duke Center for Autism during Pollard's tenure.
