SPARKS, Md. – Duke assistant coach Brooke Griffin has been named to the U.S. women's national lacrosse team's 27-player roster for the Team USA Fall Classic Oct. 6.
The October event will see Team USA take the field in an exhibition game against reigning NCAA champion James Madison at US Lacrosse Headquarters.
“Our coaching staff is excited for our first training camp and to coach this talented group of athletes,” said U.S. head coach Jenny Levy. “By 2021, our goal is to work with at least 80 players to build a hardworking, exciting and cohesive team to represent the USWNT in the next World Cup.”
The 27-player roster includes 12 of the 18 players that won gold with the 2017 U.S. World Cup team, a handful of other veterans from the U.S. team program and several recent college graduates. Griffin is among the 12 returning World Cup players.
A member of the U.S. national team since 2015, Griffin joined the Blue Devil program this summer following coaching stops at Boston College (2016-17) and Towson (2018).
Griffin was a two-time first team All-America selection by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association during her collegiate career at Maryland. She was the Big Ten Attack Player of the Year and a Tewaaraton Award nominee as a senior in 2015 and led the Terrapins to back-to-back national titles.
This past summer, Griffin played in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) as a member of the Baltimore Brave.
