DURHAM, N.C. – Standout seasons for sophomore Raine Wilson and freshmen Rachel Abboud and Peyton St. George just got even better, as the three became the first in program history to earn All-ACC honors on Tuesday, the league announced.
Wilson, who is one of the league's top players at the plate and leads the Blue Devils in nine different categories, landed on the All-ACC First Team. St. George and Abboud were tabbed as two of the league's top rookies, being named to the All-ACC Freshman Team.
A native of Mechanicsville, Va., Wilson finished the regular season standing top 10 in the ACC with 15 doubles (2nd), 62 hits (T-2nd), a .378 clip (4th), .460 on-base percentage (5th), .604 slugging percentage (7th) and 35 runs batted in (7th). She's also tops on the team with 19 multi-hit contests and nine multi-RBI performances, including being one of two Blue Devils to drive in four runs in a single game.
Wilson has also been a stud in ACC play, standing second in the league with 31 hits, third with a .419 average at the plate, fourth with 20 runs driven in and tied for fourth with a .676 slugging clip. Wilson's play was crucial in Duke closing out conference play with three-straight series wins for the first time in school history, as the third baseman turned in a .409 clip with 18 hits, 13 RBI, four doubles, two home runs and a triple.
St. George has been a key fixture in Duke's stellar season in the circle, as the Blue Devils enter the week with the league's second best ERA at 2.03. The Mechanicsville, Va., native is 8-4 on the year with a team-high 1.81 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 92.2 innings of work. Most impressive has been her play in conference action, posting a perfect 6-0 record with a 1.40 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
The righty's 1.81 overall ERA and .226 opponent batting average both stand top 10 in the conference, while she stands second in earned runs allowed (24), third in runs allowed (37) and fourth in hits given up (79). St. George is one of three pitchers to post a sub-2.00 ERA in ACC play, while also standing top 10 with a .193 opponent clip. Both totals are tops amongst the league's freshman hurlers.
Rounding out Duke's All-ACC honorees is Abboud, one of the conference's best freshmen on the offensive side of the ball. Her 53 hits and .315 batting average are both second on the team, with her hits total standing ninth amongst ACC batters. She's also tallied 17 multi-hit games, including being the only player in program history to record a four-hit performance (March 17 vs. Boston College).
Abboud owns a .329 average in ACC play, which ranks second in the league for freshmen. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native has also tallied 23 hits in conference action, four of those being doubles and one a home run, which is tied for the most amongst ACC freshmen.
Wilson, St. George, Abboud and the rest of the seventh seed Blue Devils open ACC Tournament action Wednesday, May 9 against No. 10 Virginia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on RSN with a live stream on ACC Network Extra. The winner of the contest will move on to the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals to face the No. 2 seed Pitt Panthers on Thursday at 5 p.m.
