DURHAM, N.C.—Sophomore goalkeeper Will Pulisic was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week and selected as the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week following his standout performance in the penalty kick shootout victory over Pittsburgh Sunday. It is the first award for the second-year starter this season.
Pulisic came through in the clutch for the Blue Devils, making four saves over the course of the 110 minutes and topping that by saving two penalty kicks and making his own attempt to lead the Blue Devils to the 4-3 shootout victory Sunday over Pitt.
After posting his fifth shutout of the year with four stops, the Mechanicsville, Va., native stepped up in massive fashion in penalty kicks. Pulisic stopped Pitt's final two attempts and made Duke's fourth kick as well to send the Blue Devils into the ACC semifianls for the first time since 2011.
Duke (10-5-2) advanced to the semifinals to play No. 2 seed and fourth-ranked North Carolina Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. The game will be played at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra with the winner advancing to the title game, Sunday, Nov. 11 at noon on ESPNU.
