DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team opened the Kitty Harrison Invitational with a perfect 5-0 record Friday at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
The Blue Devils kicked off competition with senior Kaitlyn McCarthy and junior Meible Chi in doubles action taking down William & Mary's Rosie Cheng and Natalia Perry, 8-5, before McCarthy teamed up with sophomore Kelly Chen to secure an 8-2 victory over East Carolina's Lisa Hofbauer and Alisa Diercksen.
The Blue Devils continued strong play into singles against Penn State. No. 12 Chen defeated Gabby O'Gorman (6-1, 6-3) while No. 31 Chi took down Olivia Rohrbacher (6-1, 6-2). No. 84 McCarthy rounded out the first day of competition with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Olivia Ryan.
Competition at the Kitty Harrison Invitational will continue Saturday morning at 9 a.m., with doubles versus Elon in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
