DURHAM, N.C. – Duke wide receivers have a bond and history that is shared over decades of success with the Blue Devils.
Earlier this fall, senior wide receiver T.J. Rahming became the fourth member of an exclusive club, joining Conner Vernon (2009-12/283), Jamison Crowder (2011-14/283) and Donovan Varner (2008-11/207) as Blue Devils with 200 or more career receptions.
Coach David Cutcliffe's Duke Football Show spoke with Duke Athletics Hall of Fame Members Wes Chesson, Cedric Jones and Clarkston Hines, as well as Vernon about their experience with Duke and watching the wide receiver unit on this year's squad excel.
Chesson (1968-70) established ACC single-season records for both pass receptions (74) and receiving yardage (1,080) en route to earning first team All-ACC and honorable mention All-America honors from the Associated Press in 1970.
Jones (1978-81) capped an outstanding career with 42 receptions for 832 yards and 10 touchdowns during his senior season, and received team MVP, first team All-ACC and second team All-America honors for his efforts.
Hines (1986-89) was named ACC Player of the Year and helped Duke to a share of the ACC title and a trip to the All American Bowl in 1989. He also won the McKevlin Award that academic year as the top athlete among all sports in the ACC. A three-time All-ACC player and consensus All-America in 1989, Hines was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
Duke returns to the field Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest at No. 2 Clemson. Television coverage will be provided by ESPN.
