WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Landfall Tradition opened action Friday in Wilmington, N.C., with a soggy start and concluded with a suspension of play in the afternoon due to inclement weather, after most teams were able to get about 13-15 holes of play in at the 6,166-yard, par 72 Country Club of Landfall Dye Course.
Teams teed off at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start, but were forced to leave the course at approximately 10:50 a.m., due to weather. Play resumed at 1:00 p.m., but once again in the afternoon play was suspended until Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
Wake Forest currently leads play with a four-over-par, while fourth-ranked Duke is second at seven-over-par. Arkansas (+10), Penn State (+10) and Maryland (+11) rounding out the top five teams.
The wet course made for some challenging conditions Friday. Senior Virginia Elena Carta paced the Blue Devils with an even-par ledger through 16 holes and she is tied fourth overall. Freshman Gina Kim is at one-over-par through 15 holes and is tied ninth.
Junior Ana Belac, who tied for individual medalist honors a year ago at the Landfall Tradition, is five-over-par through 15 holes. Miranda Wang is tied three-over with three holes remaining, while Jaravee Boonchant is three-over with two holes left.
Seeing action in her first tournament of the season, sophomore Hannah O'Sullivan is 13-over through 15 holes.
Maryland's Virunpat Olankitkunchai holds the individual lead with a three-under score through 13 holes. Only three golfers currently sit at under par for round one.
The second round will start Saturday immediately following the conclusion of the first round with a shotgun start.
