DURHAM, N.C. – Rookie Katelyn Gochenour was named ACC Women's Outdoor Freshman of the Year following the 2017 season, as announced Friday by the conference office.
Gochenour capped her first collegiate season with a school-record toss of 178-0 (54.26) to finish sixth in the women's javelin competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The first team All-America honoree had previously taken the bronze medal at the ACC Outdoor Championships with a toss of 167-5 (51.03). The Logan, Iowa native also registered a mark of 167-10 (51.16) to place fifth at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Lexington, Ky., in May.
Gochenour's NCAA effort marked her third time this season setting a school record mark in the women's javelin throw.
