BOSTON – More than 60 female athletes were chosen Wednesday night in the United Women's Lacrosse League's 2018 College Draft, including Blue Devil seniors Maddie Crutchfield and Kyra Harney.
Crutchfield was selected 12th overall by the Long Island Sound while Harney was the 40th player drafted and was chosen by the Baltimore Ride.
Nearly 30 different colleges and universities were represented in the draft, which lasted 18 rounds.
A midfielder from Concord, N.H., Crutchfield is a three-year starter for the Blue Devils and a two-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-South Region and All-ACC honoree. She garnered second team IWLCA All-America recognition as a sophomore, and enters her senior campaign ranked among the top 25 players in program history in career points, assists, free position goals and draw controls.
Harney, an attacker who hails from Bay Shore, N.Y., led Duke in points (50) and assists (20) as a junior while ranking second on the team in goals (30). She recorded the 100th goal of her career last March and rounded out the season on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, along with Crutchfield. Harney heads into her final collegiate season ranked among the top 16 players in Duke history in career points, goals and assists.
