DURHAM, N.C. – After guiding the Duke men's swimming and diving program to its first dual meet victory over North Carolina since 1939, sophomores Evan Moretti and Max St. George were both selected for ACC Performer of the Week honors Tuesday.
Moretti was named the ACC Men's Diver of the Week for the second time on the season after besting the field in Chapel Hill on the one-meter springboard. The Scarsdale, N.Y., native garnered an award of 380.85 for the second-highest in Duke history. He also turned in a career-best score in the three-meter competition, totaling 386.78 points for second on the day and fifth on the program's all-time performance list.
St. George was recognized with a weekly conference award for the first time in his career after sweeping both men's backstroke races Saturday at Koury Natatorium. He was first to the wall in the 100 (48.33) and 200 (1:46.65)-yard backstroke and led off Duke's 200 medley relay that took second in a one-two finish by the Blue Devils.
St. George shared ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honors with NC State's Ryan Held.
Behind Moretti and St. George's performances, the Duke men topped the Tar Heels by a 173-126 score to improve to 6-2 overall and 1-2 against ACC competition.
Members of the Blue Devil squads return to action in Chapel Hill and Durham this weekend at the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Invitational, slated for Friday through Sunday. Saturday's events will be held at Duke's Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion.
