DURHAM, N.C. – The final edition of our summer 40 Yards with Duke Football series has redshirt senior cornerback DeVon Edwards covering all aspects of his summer while walking and talking with Blue Devil Network's Dave Harding.
Edwards is expected to start at cornerback after transitioning from safety during spring drills. He is a returning All-ACC defensive back, All-America return specialist and Academic All-America student-athlete. This fall, he has been tabbed as a preseason All-America pick as a return specialist by Athlon Sports (4th team) and Phil Steele's College Football Preview (2nd team) as well as being charted as the No. 7 all-purpose back in the nation by Lindy's Sports.
In 40 games (33 starts), Edwards has registered 298 tackles, 10.0 tackles for lost yardage, 5.5 quarterback sacks, five interceptions, five caused fumbles, 21 pass breakups and six quarterback pressures while returning 72 kickoffs for 2,019 yards (28.04) and six TDs. Edwards' six kickoff returns for scores are the second most in NCAA history, one behind Clemson's C.J. Spiller.
Edwards and Harding covered Edwards' transition from safety to cornerback, the depth among the secondary and what Edwards has spent his summer doing.
