DURHAM, N.C. – Second team All-ACC outfielder Jimmy Herron earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Wednesday, June 8. Herron is the 11th Blue Devil to garner freshman All-America accolades and the first since first baseman Chris Marconcini in 2011.
Herron started all but one of Duke's 57 games in 2016, splitting time between center and left field. He finished second on the team with a .324 (67-for-207) batting average while leading the Blue Devils in hits (67), doubles (22) and stolen bases (24). The Harleysville, Pa., native reached base safely in 53-of-57 games this season and totaled more walks (29) than strikeouts (25).
The first Duke freshman to collect all-league distinction since Vaughn Schill in 1997, Herron finished the regular season tied for the ACC lead in doubles and ranked second in stolen bases. In addition, his total of 24 stolen bases tied for second all-time among Duke freshmen.
