BEIJING, China – The Blue Devils had a full and eventful first full day in China. The group left the hotel at 8 a.m., headed for the Great Wall and received a China history lesson during the drive by our wonderful tour guide. After driving nearly two hours, the group arrived at The Great Wall and started making the trip up.
The squad took the cable car up the mountain to get to a certain part of wall. They then split up into groups and started walking, taking photos and just admiring the incredible piece of Chinese history. The group then took the toboggan down the mountain, which ended up being one of the best parts of the day. Each person in the party rode a cart down the toboggan that ended up getting up to high speeds at times.
After leaving The Great Wall, the Blue Devils were treated to a traditional Chinese meal at a nearby restaurant. Apprehensive at first, many of the group indulged in some excellent food. Needless to say, it wasn't a normal meal for the team on the road.
Duke then made the trip back to the city and attended a very exciting acrobatic performance at The Circus World of Beijing ChaoYang Theatre.
The Blue Devils came back to the hotel for dinner and were going to have a quick pool working before heading to bed. Duke will play its first soccer match Sunday against Beijing Normal University.
