DURHAM, N.C. – Duke incoming freshmen
Brooke Heinsohn and
Ella Stevens have been selected to the 2015-16 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Girls Soccer First Team. The honors are selected by USA Today High School Sports based on performance, level of competition and strength of schedule. This is the inaugural ALL-USA team in girls soccer and includes players from fall, winter or spring seasons.
Along with the Duke duo on the first team were Jenna Bike, Kelly Maday, Kia Rankin, Frankie Tagliaferri, Alia Martin, Olivia Wade, Haylee Cacciacarne, Sam Hiatt and Amanda Visco.
Stevens, who hails from Grayson, Ga., scored 25 goals and passed for 11 assists as a senior, leading Grayson High School to a 14-4 record and to the second round of the Class AAAAAA state tournament. She was recently named the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year.
A member of the U.S. Soccer Under-20 Women's National Team during its successful World Cup qualifying campaign in December of 2015, Stevens is a two-time Gwinnett Daily Post All-County selection. She finished her prep career with 74 goals and 84 assists.
A 6-1 goalkeeper who hails from Norfolk, Mass., Heinsohn led The Rivers School to a 16-0-3 record and the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class B tournament championship this past season. She allowed only two goals in 10 matches and recorded shutouts in all three NEPSAC tournament games.
Heinsohn, a member of the U.S. Soccer U-20 Women's National Team, is a two-time All-Independent School League selection. Rated as the No. 1 goalkeeper and the No. 24 overall player in the 2016 class by TopDrawerSoccer.com, Heinsohn concluded her high school career with 50 shutouts.
The duo is a part of the No. 4 ranked recruiting class for the Blue Devils. Duke will open practice August 2 and kick off the regular season Friday, Aug. 19 versus Wofford in Chapel Hill, N.C.
