DURHAM, N.C. – Four current members of the Duke women's lacrosse program and one Blue Devil alumna have been selected to try out for the 2016-17 U.S. women's national team, as announced by US Lacrosse Thursday.
Midfielder Maddie Crutchfield, attacker Kyra Harney, attacker Olivia Jenner and defender Maura Schwitter will join 2011 graduate Sarah Bullard at tryouts Aug. 5-7 at the national team training center at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.
Following the three-day tryout, approximately 36 players will be selected for the U.S. team, which will train in the lead-up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Guildford, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
Bullard tallied eight goals during the United States' run to its seventh FIL World Cup title in 2013. She was also a member of the 2009 U.S. Women's World Cup championship squad and a two-time All-America selection during her collegiate career. She has been a member of Team USA since graduating from Duke and is also currently a member of the United Women's Lacrosse League's (UWLX) Boston Storm.
Crutchfield was one of just nine college players to make the 2015-16 U.S. national team 36-player roster. She is a two-year starter in the Duke midfield, and was a second team All-America selection by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) this spring.
Crutchfield, Harney, Jenner and Schwitter guided Duke to an 11-9 ledger and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament this spring. The Blue Devils ranked among the top 15 teams nationally throughout the season while wrapping up the year at No. 11 in the IWLCA final poll.
