EUGENE, Ore. – The Duke track & field program capped the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships Saturday, highlighted by senior Anima Banks claiming first team All-America honors in the women's 800.
In the team standings, the Duke women's squad scored seven points to finish tied for 37th overall. Arkansas took the team title on the women's side with 72 points, while Florida captured the men's championships with 62 points.
After placing second in her preliminary heat Thursday with a time of 2:04.22 to book her spot in today's women's 800 final, Banks secured first team All-America status with a time of 2:03.09 to finish sixth overall. Banks used a 59.43 split over the first lap to head into the bell lap in second place before capping the race with a 1:03.67 final 400 meters.
Sitting 19th in the standings with 3,204 points heading into the final three events of the heptathlon, redshirt senior Teddi Maslowski kicked off day two with a mark of 19-0.25 (5.81m) in the long jump for 792 points. Maslowski followed that with a personal-best throw in the javelin, launching the implement 109-11 (33.50m) to add 543 points. The Burgettstown, Pa., product capped the heptathlon and her Duke career with a time of 2:18.57 in the 800 to finish in 18th place with 5,382 points.
With the 2016 collegiate outdoor season wrapped up, Banks and pole vaulter Megan Clark will return to Eugene for the U.S. Olympic Trials July 1-10.
