DURHAM, N.C. – Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea and sophomore midfielder Maddie Crutchfield both garnered midseason All-America recognition from Inside Lacrosse, as announced by the publication Thursday. In addition, Duryea was tabbed the Most Outstanding Goalie at the midpoint of the season by Lacrosse Magazine.
Duryea was a first team pick on the Inside Lacrosse and Lacrosse Magazine midseason All-America lists after beginning the season as an honorable mention selection by Inside Lacrosse. The Beverly, Mass., native has anchored Duke to an 8-4 record and a 3-0 mark in ACC play, averaging 9.00 saves per game. She continues to lead the nation in save percentage (.563) and tops the conference in that category as well as saves per game and ground balls per game (3.17). Duryea and the defensive unit have held seven of the last eight opponents to single-digit scoring. In addition, she earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week laurels Tuesday for the second time on the season after posting 12 saves in an 11-8 victory over No. 13 Virginia last weekend.
With 108 saves this spring, Duryea has moved into third on the Blue Devils' all-time career chart with 540 over four seasons. That total also ranks her first among all active Division I goalkeepers.
Crutchfield received third team recognition from Inside Lacrosse after registering at least one point in all eight of Duke's March contests. She has hit her stride as of late, notching 15 goals, 10 assists, eight ground balls, 12 draw controls and six caused turnovers during the month. She broke a program record in a March 12 upset of No. 5 Louisville with six assists, and added three goals in that contest for a career-high nine points. That performance netted her ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Crutchfield, who hails from Concord, N.H., ranks among the top 10 players in the ACC in free position percentage (.500), free position goals per game (0.50) and assists per game (1.08).
The 14th-ranked Blue Devils face a tough ACC road test this weekend, traveling to No. 4 Syracuse Sunday. The 12 p.m. matchup will be broadcast on ESPN3 from the Carrier Dome.
