DURHAM, N.C. - As Duke Athletics nears the conclusion of 2016, we wanted to look back at some of the top moments that made it so extraordinary.
In this countdown titled, “Top 16 of 2016,” we have chosen 16 noteworthy events from the calendar year that encapsulated the spirit and success of Duke while also illuminating the growth and achievements that our athletic programs continue to attain.
The series, starting Friday, December 16, will continue daily until its conclusion on December 31.
No. 9: Rowing Makes First NCAA Appearance
Backed by a strong performance at the ACC Championship, the Duke rowing team received the program's first NCAA Championship bid. The Blue Devils were an at-large selection to the field of 22 schools and competed in the national regatta at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif. While at the event, Duke's V4 and 2V8 won their C Final races and the V8 took sixth in its C Final to help the Blue Devils to a 17th place overall finish. Head coach Megan Cooke Carcago was named the ACC Coach of the Year and the Duke staff was recognized as the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Staff of the Year.
