TULSA, Okla. – Duke junior Nicolas Alvarez opened the Saint Francis ITA All-American Championships Main Draw with a closely contested 7-6 (7), 6-2 setback to Southern California's Logan Smith.

Alvarez will play one consolation match Friday.

Alvarez and the rest of the Blue Devils will return to action Friday, October 14, at the ITA Carolina Regional at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
