DURHAM, N.C.—Duke rookie Brandon Williamson picked up one more weekly honor on the heels of his performance against Notre Dame, earning the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week award.
Williamson, who was also voted the ACC Offensive Player of the Week as well as to the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer Teams of the Week, had the performance of his lifetime last Friday night. The Gainesville, Va., native registered both goals and played all 108 minutes in the Blue Devils' thrilling double overtime win over the Fighting Irish.
His first goal came in the 35th minute on a fantastic strike from 15 yards into the right corner of the goal. Notre Dame goalkeeper Chris Hubbard had no chance on the bullet that evened the score for the Blue Devils
After the two teams battled back and forth it was Williamson coming through again in the 109th minute on a fantastic cross from Max Moser. The rookie utility player settled the ball down to his right foot and put it in the back of the net for the golden goal.
The win over the No. 4 Irish was the highest ranked win for a Blue Devil squad since beating No. 1 North Carolina in 2014.
Earlier in the week, Williamson started and played 52 minutes in a 3-2 win over Campbell. He has started five games this season.
Duke (6-6-2) plays its final non-conference game Tuesday night at Elon. The Blue Devils finish the regular season on the road at No. 16 Virginia.
