DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's lacrosse head coach Kerstin Kimel and the Blue Devil staff welcomed the addition of six freshmen and one graduate student to the program for the 2017 campaign. Midfielder Catherine Cordrey comes to Duke from Summit, N.J.

Prior to Duke: Cordrey competed on the South Team at the North vs. South All-Star Game this summer after recording 44 goals and six assists during her senior campaign at Summit. She was a first team all-state, all-group, all-conference and all-division selection this past season while guiding Summit to the state title. Cordrey rounded out her prep career with 152 goals and 34 assists and was tabbed No. 30 on Inside Lacrosse's “Top Gun Senior” list.
What is your best lacrosse memory?
CC: Winning state championship (TOC) last season.
When did you start playing lacrosse?
CC: I first started playing lacrosse when I was about five years old. As the youngest of four children, I remember being dragged around to my older siblings' soccer, lacrosse or baseball practices always carrying a stick to keep me occupied.
Who has had the largest impact on your life?
CC: I think my entire family has had a tremendous impact on me. My siblings have all had successful athletic and college careers, setting the bar high. They have shown me the value of hard work, dedication and a commitment to never give up.
Why did you choose Duke?
CC: I chose Duke because of the stellar combination of academics and athletics. I also fell in love with the coaching staff and team dynamic.
What are your goals for your collegiate career?
CC: To successfully perform in a competitive environment, both academically and athletically, as well as enjoy a positive and successful career with my teammates.

Favorite athlete: Roger Federer
Hobbies: Painting/Drawing, Reading, Playing the Ukulele, Baking
Favorite TV show: Game of Thrones
Pregame ritual/superstition: I don't consider myself superstitious but I always like to listen or dance to music before games to release any tension
If you were to play another sport, what would it be? I would play either tennis or golf
Interesting fact about yourself: I am learning to become a certified Scuba Diver
Best advice you've ever received: Don't make excuses for yourself
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I think I will be living in New York City or somewhere along the East Coast in a corporate career
To be a part of the Duke women's lacrosse program is … a great honor, not only for me, but also my family and town.
