A native of New Delhi, India, Singh will enter the second round tied seventh overall, after leading the field with a four-under-par ledger through 10 holes early. She suffered her only bogeys on holes No. 15 and No. 18 on the way into the clubhouse. Singh netted birdies on No. 3, No. 6, rolled a 30-foot putt on No. 8 and carded her fourth birdie on No. 10. She hit 14 greens, 12 fairways and rolled 30 putts.
Taking the opening round lead was Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho with a six-under-par, 66, and a total of 16 golfers shot under par Friday.
As a team, Duke totaled a four-over-par, 292, and is tied sixth overall along with South Carolina. Wake Forest carded a six-under-par, 282, and leads by one stroke over Ohio State. Alabama (285), Arkansas (286), NC State (288), South Carolina (292), Duke (292) Tennessee (294), Louisville (295), Vanderbilt (296) and Michigan (296) rounded out the top 10.
Freshman Ana Belac of the Blue Devils signed for a collegiate best even-par, 72, in round one as she is competing in her second collegiate tournament. Belac, who hails from Portoroz, Slovenia, played her final 14 holes at one-under-par with birdies on No. 7, No. 8 and No. 18. She rolled in a 17-foot birdie on the 18th to get back to even par for the day. Belac had 32 putts, while hitting 13 greens and 12 fairways.
Duke's lone senior Sandy Choi carded four birdies on the day, but two double-bogeys on the back nine brought her score down to a 74. A product of Seoul, South Korea, Choi opened with three-putt bogeys on No. 1 and No. 2, but settled down to birdie the fifth and eighth holes. She suffered a double-bogey on the 388-yard, par four 11th hole, but came back with back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes to get back to even par. She missed the green on the 165-yard, par three 14th and ended up finishing with a double-bogey to fall back to two-over. Choi went on to par the final four holes. She hit 13 fairways, 13 greens and rolled 30 putts on the day.
After opening with a six-over-par ledger through 13 holes, sophomore Virginia Elena Carta was able to finish strong with back-to-back birdies on No. 15 and No. 16, while lipping out for birdie on No. 18 on her way to closing with a 76.
