DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Athletics Hall of Fame member
Bob Burrows passed away on Friday, January 22 in Raleigh, N.C. He was 83.
A native of Asheboro, N.C., Burrows was a three-year (1951-52-53) letterman as a guard for Duke's football team and helped the Blue Devils to a three-year record of 20-8-2 with two conference championships in 1952 (Southern) and 1953 (Atlantic Coast). A two-time all-conference pick, he was an All-America and team MVP selection as a senior before being drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 1954 NFL Draft.
Burrows earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Duke in 1954. Following a stint in the U.S. Air Force, he enjoyed a 40-year career with Southeast Container Corp and its various successor companies.
Burrows was inducted into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.
