DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke baseball team held its annual Scout Day Thursday, Sept. 24 as nearly 30 Major League Baseball scouts were on hand to evaluate the Blue Devil players.
Duke has produced 61 players selected in the MLB Draft, including five this past season in Michael Matuella (3rd Round | No. 78 Overall | Texas Rangers), Sarkis Ohanian (9th Round | No. 265 Overall | Cincinnati Reds), Kenny Koplove (17th Round | No. 504 Overall | Philadelphia Phillies), Andrew Istler (23rd Round | No. 702 overall | Los Angeles Dodgers) and James Marvel (36th Round | No. 1,087 | Pittsburgh Pirates). Matuella and Ohanian became the first Duke teammates picked in the first 10 rounds of the draft since Larry Broadway (3rd Round | No. 77 | Montreal Expos) and Kevin Kelly (5th Round, No. 157 | San Francisco Giants) in 2002.
The Blue Devils have had 31 players drafted over the past 15 years, including eight under head coach Chris Pollard.
