The Start to the 2015 SeasonDURHAM, N.C.-- If there is one thing I've taken away from the last three years at Duke, it is that I am simply lucky to be a member of the Duke women's soccer team. It is by no means a traditional college experience to be able to compete for a national championship at the start of each year. However, I would consider it even more rare to be surrounded by passionate, reliable and dynamic women that never cease to inspire or amaze me while doing so. I am humbled by the fact that starting today, I will have been a teammate to 49 of these women.
As a member of the senior class in the upcoming 2015 season, I have never felt more responsibility along with my class to be a bridge between the teammates that have come before and after us, and here is why:
To the teammates older than me – thank you for teaching us what it means to represent Duke women's soccer. You have instilled a tradition of integrity, dedication and enjoyment both on and off the field that was not lost on our young souls from the moment we stepped on the pitch.
From personal experience, I have been able to embark on new journeys and spend time in multiple cities this summer. In each city, I was met with open arms from teammates I have and even have not played with, and received visits from current teammates who simply offered their company and support. These are not moments I take for granted. Thank you for challenging, inspiring and caring about us, and I, along with my senior class, hope to instill the same values.
To the current DWS members – I am beyond excited about this season. I cannot wait to take the momentum we created in the spring and make it a starting point to a season I know we are all highly anticipating. I look forward to relentless training sessions, goal celebrations and pre-game traditions. But I also look forward to fighting through hardships and adversity that are unavoidable in the passion-filled game we play. There is not one other group of women I would rather take the field with starting this week. I am moved by all of your intensity and dedication.
Here's to the start.
Go Duke!
