DURHAM, N.C. – Five members of the Duke women's lacrosse program were recognized on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll for the 2014-15 academic year, as announced by the organization Monday. The Blue Devils' five selections for the 2014-15 edition of the honor roll led all ACC institutions.
Recent graduates Brigid Smith and Erin Tenneson and seniors Kaki Jennison, Emma Lazaroff and Jordan McCarthy were among the 256 student-athletes from 80 Division I institutions who were honored. All student-athletes were nominated by their schools, achieved at least junior status academically and had a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
In addition, Duke was also named an Academic Honor Squad for the 2015 season, as released by the IWLCA last week. The program was one of 85 schools selected across Division I for earning a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Smith was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the first time in her career after graduating from Duke in May with a degree in public policy and a certificate in Markets and Management Studies. A four-year member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and a two-time All-ACC Academic Team selection, she played in 61 career contests while starting 41 at attack. Smith concluded her four seasons in Durham ranked 20th in program history in career goals (84) and 21st in career points (113).
Tenneson received her second selection to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll to go along with All-ACC Academic Team accolades in 2015. A psychology major who also earned a certificate in Markets and Management Studies, she joined Smith in garnering ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition all four years. The midfielder from Pasadena, Md., guided Duke to the NCAA semifinals for the first time since 2011 this past spring while serving as a team captain. She also notched career highs in nearly every statistical category her final season.
Jennison made her first appearance on the honor roll after collecting ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition for the third consecutive year in 2015. A Spanish major and midfielder, she took the field in three contests as a junior, placing two shots on goal and registering one caused turnover.
A psychology major from Lafayette, Colo., Lazaroff appeared in 20 of the Blue Devils' 21 games last spring. She recorded a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists, scoring twice in a regular season victory over William & Mary. Lazaroff received her third selection to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2015.
McCarthy was also selected to the honor roll for the first time in addition to garnering her third ACC Academic Honor Roll accolade as a junior. A midfielder from New Vernon, N.J., she saw action in eight contests last spring, posting four ground balls and one caused turnover.
