DURHAM, N.C. – The three-day process to install new sod for the playing surface in Wallace Wade Stadium began on Wednesday morning.
An engineered grass titled Latitude 36 Bermudagrass, which was developed at Oklahoma State University, began growing in June of 2014 at the Precision Turf farm in Braselton, Ga. It is identical to the gridiron surface used by the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans and Washington Redskins.
A total of 376 tractor trailer trucks were utilized to transport the necessary elements including sod (18 trucks), gravel (208) and sand (150).
Duke's first game on the new surface will be the home-opener versus N.C. Central on Saturday, September 12 at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils kick off the season at Tulane on Thursday, September 3 at 9:30 p.m.
