DURHAM, N.C. – Duke baseball incoming freshman Zack Kone was named to the Louisville Slugger High School All-America first team following a standout senior campaign at perennial power Pine Crest School.
An athletic shortstop from Boca Raton, Fla., Kone hit a blistering .556 (30-for-54) with nine doubles, a triple and seven home runs over the course of his senior season. In addition, he scored 20 runs and drove in 19 RBI while registering a .607 on-base percentage and 1.148 slugging percentage.
The honor from Louisville Slugger is one of numerous citations Kone has received this season. He also garnered player of the year recognition from the Florida Athletic Coach's Association, the Miami Herald and the Sun Sentinel as well as first team All-Broward County and District 14 4-A Player of the Year accolades.
Prior to the 2015 season, Perfect Game rated Kone among the top 205 prospects in the nation as well as the No. 6 overall prospect in the state of Florida and the No. 32 shortstop in the country.
An aggressive right-handed hitter, Kone has tremendous bat speed and an athletic build. Defensively, he is capable of covering ground at shorts and boasts above average arm strength.
