DURHAM, N.C.—Five members of the Duke University wrestling team were selected to the sport's 2015 All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the conference office Friday. The five honorees are the most in the league and match last year's total.
Evan Botwin, Marcus Cain, Brian Dorsey, Jake Faust and Jacob Kasper all earned recognition for their efforts on both the mat and in the classroom. It is the second honor for Botwin, Cain and Kasper, while Dorsey and Faust each garnered the accolade for the first time in their careers. Duke's trio of repeat honorees is nearly half of the eight listed wrestlers to have earned the award multiple times in their careers.
Kasper, the ACC runner-up at 184 pounds, is one of five members of the team that also garnered All-ACC recognition during the year. Cain and Kasper both earned berths in the NCAA Championships.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a minimum 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
