DURHAM, N.C.-- It's a basketball lover's favorite time of year. When good teams become great teams, seeds are drawn, brackets filled, Cinderella teams surface, and a time when basketball fans tend to go a little crazy, March Madness!
Being from Kentucky, where being a basketball fan is almost a sport in its own right, I know firsthand how thrilling tournament time is.
Basketball fans are diehard in my hometown of Owensboro, Ky. and 'March Madness' is almost like a month long holiday for some! It's definitely an exciting time, not only for the fans but especially for all the players with dreams of winning a National Title. With so much talent and athleticism in this year's tournament, there's sure to be some great matchups!
Now that the regular season and the conference tournament are in the books, we are focused only on one game at a time, no looking ahead. No more three-hour practices, no guaranteed games, and no playing to the opponent from here on through the tourney. Any team can make a run and that's what makes it so special.
We had a really tough schedule this year. But because of that, I feel like we are prepared and know what we are capable of. Beating our rival, North Carolina at home and away were two of the best moments of our season, as well as a huge confidence booster for our team.
This past Monday our program gathered together for the selection show to discover our destiny for this year's NCAA Tournament. We received the No. 4 seed in the Spokane Region and we're more than excited for our road ahead! We get to host our first two games on our home court in Cameron Indoor Stadium vs. Albany, while Mississippi State and Tulane will also play in Durham. The winners will meet up Sunday at 12 p.m., in Cameron.
Before the first game of the tournament is played though, it's a clean slate for all and everyone is equal, at least for now. This brings the start of the NCAA Tournament where hopefully it all comes together for us. Last year during my redshirt season we unfortunately did not get as far as we'd hoped to, but it's a new beginning and we are ready to make a serious run of it. I'm beyond excited to be out there this year and play in my first NCAA Tournament and we're ready to make some noise.
It's what we have worked for all season long. That's the thing about tournament time... anything can happen! Survive and advance all the way to Tampa!
Go Duke!
