DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke standout and Tewaaraton Award winner Katie Chrest Erbe has been selected for induction into the Carroll County [Md.] Sports Hall of Fame, as announced Sunday, March 1.
The 2005 recipient of the Tewaaraton Trophy, which is given annually to the nation's top college lacrosse player, Chrest Erbe was a three-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Inside Lacrosse All-American during her career at Duke, receiving first team honors as a junior and senior. The attacker was named to the IWLCA All-South Region team in each of her four seasons and made two appearances on the All-ACC team. She was twice tabbed the ACC Player of the Year and earned ACC Tournament MVP accolades in 2005 and ACC Rookie of the Year recognition in 2003.
Chrest Erbe is the Blue Devils' all-time leader in points (287) and goals (216) and continues to rank among the top five players in ACC history in both categories. She is the program's single-season record holder with 96 points during her junior campaign (2005). That same season she led Duke to its first ACC title.
A native of Hampstead, Md., Chrest Erbe went on to compete with the U.S. national team, helping the squad capture the 2009 World Cup. She later spent time as an assistant coach at Loyola and Columbia before becoming the Wellness Coordinator at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Ind. She also founded Chrest Lacrosse Ventures, a Baltimore-based group that organizes instructional youth lacrosse camps and helps facilitate recruiting between young athletes and schools.
Chrest Erbe received her bachelor's degree in history from Duke in 2006.
The Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet will take place May 8 in Westminster, Md.
