BANDON, ORE. -- Sophomore Alexander Matlari posted a season-low four-under 68 to lead Duke to a two-over 290 and a share of the 36-hole lead at the Bandon Dunes Championship. The Blue Devils enter tomorrow's final round at Bandon Dunes Resort with a one-under 575.
Duke shares the tournament lead with Missouri with St. Mary's (577), Washington State (579) and Colorado (579) rounding out the top five. Matlari is tied for third on the individual leaderboard with a three-under 141, three shots back of leader Cody Blick (San Jose State).
Matlari opened the second round with three straight pars before suffering a bogey on the par 4 fourth hole. That would be his lone blemish on the round as he birdied the next hole and added five more pars to enter No. 11 at even-par. Matlari proceeded to birdie four of the next five holes, including three straight from No. 13-15, to get to four-under on the round. He parred the remaining three holes to post to lone round in the 60s on the day.
Senior Turner Southey-Gordon also had a strong day for the Blue Devils with an even-par 72. He collected three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys en route to his first even-par round of the year. Southey-Gordon enters the final round tied for 11th with a one-under 143.
Jake Shuman carded a one-over 73 and is tied for 33rd with a 148 (+4). He began the day with a birdie and played the opening 15 holes at one-under before dropping a pair of shots over the final three holes.
Freshman Adam Wood and junior Motin Yeung are also tied for 33rd at four-over after 36 holes of play. Wood struggled on the opening nine en route to a 78, while Yeung had six bogeys over the first 14 holes while shooting a 77.
Duke's Max Greyserman and Andrew Bieber were also in action as individuals. Greyserman is tied for 59th after shooting a three-over 75, while Bieber slid back to tied for 68th after struggling to an 83 Saturday.
Duke opens final round play Sunday at 11:30 am (ET) and will be paired with Missouri, St. Mary's and Washington State. Live scoring for the event is available at www.golfstat.com.
