BANDON, ORE – Three Blue Devils posted under-par rounds Friday to pace Duke to a three-under 285 after one round of play at the Bandon Dunes Championship. Duke is four shots off the lead and tied for third at the 54-hole event at Bandon Dunes Resort (6,830 yards – par 72).
UC Davis holds the first round lead with a seven-under 281 followed by St. Mary's (283), Duke (285), Missouri (285) and Colorado (286).
Cody Blick (San Jose State) posted a seven-under 65 to secure the individual lead after 18 holes. Michael Anderson (Washington State) is second at five-under and followed by Patrick Soli (UC Davis) at four-under. Brayden Eriksen (Utah Valley) and Maclayne Marr (St. Mary's) round out the top five with three-under 69s.
Freshman Adam Wood fired a two-under 70 and is among a group of eight golfers tied for sixth overall. The Zionsville, Ind., native had five birdies on the day and was two-under on the par 5s at Bandon Dunes.
Turner Southey-Gordon, a senior out of Canada, used an eagle and five birdies to record a one-under 71. He enters tomorrow's second round tied for 14th along with teammate Motin Yeung. Yeung posted three birdies and 13 pars on the day.
Sophomore Andrew Bieber, playing as an individual, is also tied for 14th with a one-under 71.
Alexander Matlari, a sophomore out of Germany, is tied for 34th with a one-over 73. He recorded four birdies in his round and played the par 4s at one-under.
Freshman Jake Shuman posted a round of 75 and is tied for 52nd, while Max Greyserman, competing as an individual, is tied for 70th with a five-over 77.
Duke returns to action Saturday beginning at 11:30 am (ET). The Blue Devils will be paired with UC Davis, St. Mary's and Missouri in the second round of play. Live scoring for the tournament is available at www.golfstat.com.
