INDIANAPOLIS – Duke football head coach David Cutcliffe was one of 18 individuals named to USA Football's newly created Football Advisory Committee. Current and former players, coaches, general managers and athletic administrators who have earned NCAA conference championships, high school state titles, Super Bowl victories and a bronze bust from the Pro Football Hall of Fame make up the committee.
USA Football, the sport's national governing body, educates more youth and high school football coaches combined than any organization in the United States.
Chaired by Pro Football Hall of Famer and ESPN NFL analyst Bill Polian, the committee will guide the continued development of USA Football's educational resources and player safety initiatives, including USA Football's Heads Up Football program. Heads Up Football is endorsed by leading organizations spanning medicine, child advocacy and sport. The group will collaborate with USA Football's 10-member Medical Advisory Committee to advance the sport on multiple levels for the betterment of young athletes.
USA Football's Football Advisory Committee also will:
· Review recommended coaching points on key fundamentals and drills to improve skill development
· Provide recommendations to enhance USA Football's on-field instruction, resources and guidelines
· Advise USA Football on prospective football development models to maximize player development
· Advise USA Football on key topics, including playing standards, practice guidelines and rules to advance player safety and promote a positive coaching philosophy
“The vast, collective knowledge of this committee will be a tremendous resource to USA Football and the millions of children who love to play this game,” Polian said. “USA Football is raising standards in how coaches are prepared to teach and how player safety is addressed by coaches, players and parents.”
“These are accomplished and exceptional teachers,” USA Football Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck said. “They have joined our team to help us continue to lead and establish important standards in education. They know the social and fitness benefits that our children gain through football. They're dads and grandfathers and they passionately care about the kids who love to play this sport.”
