Motin Yeung each posted rounds of 74 Saturday to pace Duke a 14-over 302 in the second round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational. Duke enters tomorrow's final round at Sawgrass Country Club 11th overall with a 615 (+39).
Texas holes the tournament lead with a five-over 581 after posting an eight-under 280 Saturday. North Florida is three shots back with Oklahoma State (595), UCLA (595) and Alabama (602) rounding out the top five. Beau Hossler (Texas) recorded a six-under 66 in the second round to grab the individual lead.
Opening up on the back nine, Wood carded birdies on No. 12, No. 14, No. 17 and No. 18 but made the turn at one-over due to three bogeys and a double-bogey. The Zionsville, Ind., native slipped to three-over after bogeys on No. 2 and No. 6 before responding with birdies on the par 4 seventh and par 5 eighth holes. Wood dropped a stroke on No. 9 and is currently just outside the top 20 with a 36-hole total of 150 (+6).
Yeung collected four birdies, nine pars, four bogeys and a double-bogey en route to a two-over 74. He played the opening 13 holes at one-over before dropping two strokes with a double-bogey on No. 5. Yeung closed strong with three pars and a birdie on the par 5 eighth hole.
Sophomore
Alexander Matlari posted a steady 75 Saturday with one birdie, 13 pars and four bogeys. The Leimen, Germany native had a string of eight straight pars (No. 18 – No. 7) on the day. Matlari is now tied for 45th with a 10-over 154.
Jake Shuman, a freshman from Massachusetts, posted four birdies in the second round but was hindered by five double-bogeys en route to a seven-over 79. He is tied for 67th with a 159.
Turner Southey-Gordon struggled throughout the day while posting an 11-over 83. He enters the final round tied for 74th.
