DURHAM, N.C. -- The holidays are here and it's time for everyone to head home for a short break. The season really begins to fly once we start playing games and I can't believe its already time for Christmas. With an amazing trip to Cancun for Thanksgiving and some solid wins under out belt, were sitting at a great spot heading into Christmas.
With exams finished, we've had plenty of time to get better, bond and of course…get in the Christmas spirit. With the dorms closing and the majority of students headed home for the holidays, we'll be spending a nice few weeks at the Washington Duke Hotel, a slight step up from dorm sized twin beds to say the least!
We just recently had our annual Christmas party at Coach Ps house, which was a lot of fun! We also had our team-only party where we all brought food, played Dirty Santa and had our class talent show. The juniors took the crown (for the third year running) with our flawless performance singing the“12 days of Christmas Remix.” The sophomores came in a close second with an impressive dance and the freshmen struggled….finishing last.
Lucky for me, our last game heading into Christmas happened to be in my home state, at the University Kentucky. It was homecoming for me and the first time I had a chance to play a college game in my home state. Although the ending wasn't what we wanted, it will be a learning process for our team and we will get better from our mistakes and improve.
The support from my family and hometown is amazing and I'm lucky to have such a supportive following behind me. My coaches and teammates love to make fun of me for being from Kentucky because of its “country” stereotype, but I embrace it and was glad that some of them were able to experience it for the first time. I even had my sister bring some of her homemade deer jerky, to give my teammates a little “taste” of the south (literally).
After the game at Kentucky, I was able to make the two and a half hour drive back to Owensboro for a nice few days at home with family and friends for Christmas. I haven't been home since August so I'm more than ready to be reunited with my sisters, dog, and my mom's amazing food…and her company too of course. I was more generous this year than ever with my gift giving, so I'm pretty excited to see the reactions from my family. I'm looking forward to another amazing Christmas!
See you all back in Durham for two home games after Christmas, against Western Carolina (Dec. 29) and UNCW (Dec. 31).
Happy Holidays and Go Duke!
