DURHAM, N.C. -- The Blue Devil Network caught up with former Duke baseball standout Jordan Betts during his fall visit to campus.
The Boston Red Sox selected Betts in the 18th round (No. 554 overall) of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. He played his first season of pro ball with the Lowell Spinners before moving to the Salem Red Sox this past year.
During his career at Duke, Betts became the first Blue Devil third baseman chosen since Jeff Becker was selected in the 20th round of the 1998 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. The Wilmington, N.C., native enjoyed a standout senior campaign, which culminated with his second consecutive All-ACC second team honors. The first Blue Devil to earn back-to-back all-league distinction since Vaughn Schill in 1998 and 1999, Betts finished the 2014 season ranked 15th in the ACC in batting average (.316), second in doubles (20) and sixth in slugging percentage (.515). For his career, Betts played in 217 games and registered a .272 batting average with 69 doubles, six triples and 17 home runs.
