CINCINNATI, Ohio – Linebacker Vincent Rey was thrust into a starting role for the Cincinnati Bengals last fall, and the former Duke captain responded with 121 tackles en route to earning the organization's Defensive Player of the Year honor.
The recognition capped off an outstanding season for Rey, who was once again the Bengals' nomination for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for community service. In addition, Rey was elected by his teammates to serve as the franchise's representative to the NFL Players Association.
In 2014, Rey was on the gridiron for 952 total snaps after playing a combined 461 in his previous four professional campaigns. His 121 tackles ranked as the 12th-highest total in the league. Rey helped Cincinnati to a 10-5-1 overall record and berth in the playoffs.
Rey lettered four seasons (2006-07-08-09) for the Blue Devils and amassed 330 career tackles. He served as a team captain and earned All-ACC honors in his final campaign. Undrafted, Rey signed a free agent contract with the Bengals and has played 66 career games over his five seasons while totaling 209 tackles, 5.0 sacks and two interceptions.
