INDIVIDUAL NOTES• Redshirt senior quarterback
Anthony Boone threw for 268 yards to lift his career total to 3,604 yards and pass Mike Dunn (1975-78/3,511 yards) and Spencer Romine (1997-2000/3,545) for 10th place on the Duke all-time list.
• Boone tossed one touchdown passes to increase his career total to 24, tied with Scotty Glacker (1963-65) for eighth on Duke's career passing TD list.
• Boone rushed for his first two touchdowns of the year. In the second quarter he turned in a career-long 30-yard rush. The two ground scores matched Boone's career high as he had two against Wake Forest in 2011.
• Boone improved to 12-0 as a starting quarterback in regular-season games.
• Boone's overall record of 12-2 (.857 winning percentage) is good for the best winning percentage by a signal caller in program history, surpassing Worth Lutz' (1951-54) .846 mark.
• Boone's 12 wins as a starting quarterback are tied for the eighth most by a Blue Devil QB. Jerry Barger (1951-54) owns the program record with 17 victories.
• Redshirt sophomore quarterback
Thomas Sirk threw his first career touchdown pass in the second quarter. Sirk has accounted for three touchdowns in this season's two games.
• Senior wide receiver
Jamison Crowder hauled in seven passes for 70 yards. He now has 212 receptions, good for the fourth most in ACC history and the second most in Duke history. Former Blue Devil
Conner Vernon (2009-12/283 catches) holds the all-time league and school mark.
• Crowder's 89 all-purpose yards lifted his career total to 4,398, surpassing Vernon (4,357) and Mike Grayson (1980-83/4,381) for third on the Duke all-time list. Chris Douglas (2000-03) owns the school record with 5,753 yards.
• Crowder extended his consecutive games streak with two or more receptions to 30. The mark is the third-longest streak among active NCAA receivers, trailing only East Carolina's Justin Hardy, who entered Saturday night with 37 such consecutive games.
• Crowder recorded his 25th career game with five or more receptions.
• Redshirt senior wide receiver
Issac Blakeney finished with five catches for 90 yards. He owns nine receptions for 135 yards so far this year. In the last four regular season games of 2013, Blakeney tallied just four grabs for 21 yards.
• Junior wide receiver
Max McCaffrey caught four passes, bringing his season total to nine receptions. In 2013, McCaffrey tallied 26 grabs in 14 games.
• Junior running back
Shaquille Powell chipped in with 46 yards on 11 rushes. In his last four regular season games, he has gained 237 rushing yards on just 44 attempts (5.39 yards per rush).
• Freshman running back
Shaun Wilson gained 18 yards on three carries. In his first two collegiate games, Wilson has averaged 9.89 yards per attempt.
• Redshirt junior tight end
David Reeves hauled in his first touchdown pass of the season with a two-yard toss from Sirk. Reeves has two TD receptions in his last three games (Texas A&M/2013).
• Redshirt freshman wide receiver
Terrence Alls made his first career receptions during the fourth quarter.
• Senior linebacker
David Helton finished with 15 tackles, including eight assists. He entered the game ranked sixth among active FBS players in career assisted tackles with 139.
• The contest was the fifth of Helton's career recording 10 or more tackles.
• Redshirt sophomore safety/cornerback
DeVon Edwards forced two fumbles in the contest, tied for the second most in a game in Duke history. Charles Bowser owns the record with three forced fumbles against Virginia in 1981.
- The last Blue Devil with two forced fumbles in a game was
Walt Canty with two against FIU in 2011.
• Edwards also recorded his third career game with double-digit tackles, booking a personal-best 14.
• Redshirt senior defensive end
Jordan DeWalt-Ondijo recorded sacks on consecutive plays during Troy's first drive of the third quarter. DeWalt-Ondijo entered the game with 5.5 career sacks. He had two quarterback drops during the entire 2013 campaign.
• Junior kicker
Ross Martin drilled a 24-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 48-yard attempt in the fourth quarter to give him 36 in his career and move into a tie with Tom Cochran (1993-95) for the fourth most in program history. Sims Lenhardt (1996-99) holds the school record with 55 field goals.
• With his field goal, Martin has scored at least one point in 29 straight games.
• Martin has made 71 consecutive PATs, the second longest streak in Duke history, trailing only 84 consecutive PATs by Will Snyderwine (2009-11).
• Senior offensive lineman
Laken Tomlinson started his 41st straight game, tied for the longest streak among active NCAA FBS linemen.
• Redshirt freshman linebacker
Chris Holmes made his first career start.
TEAM NOTES• With the victory, Duke improves to 2-0 for the second-straight season, a first for the program since 1987 (3-0) and 1988 (5-0).
- Since 1960, the Blue Devils have started 2-0 or better in consecutive years just four times.
• Duke claimed the program's sixth-straight road victory, a first for the Blue Devils since the 1954-55 seasons.
• Duke improves to 17-11 in non-conference games under head coach
David Cutcliffe. The Blue Devils have won their last eight non-league regular season games and are 11-1 in the last 12 such contests.
- The eight consecutive non-league regular season wins are tied the most in Duke history with a stretch from Oct. 23, 1931 – Nov. 4, 1933, when the Blue Devils were part of the Southern Conference.
• With the victory, Duke won for the 12th time in its last 16 contests. It is the winningest 16-game stretch for the program since claiming 12 of 16 contests from Sept. 22, 1962 - Oct. 26, 1963.
• Similarly, the Blue Devils have won 10 of their last 12 games for the most successful 12-contest stretch since taking 11 of 12 from Sept. 29, 1962 - Oct. 5, 1963.
- The Blue Devils' last 10 victories have spanned 343 days on the calendar. For comparison, Duke's eight seasons prior to Cutcliffe taking over covered 2,639 days, during which the Blue Devils also amassed 10 wins.
• With the 2-0 start, Cutcliffe has upped his win total to 33. He trails Mike McGee (1971-78/37) for third on the all-time Duke chart by four wins. Wallace Wade (1931-41; 1946-50) owns the school mark with 110 triumphs.
• The victory was Duke's second in the state of Alabama since 1900, and first since downing Auburn 13-7 on Nov. 3, 1934.
• Duke outgained Troy 452-396 in total yards of offense. The Blue Devils have outgained their foes in four of the last five contests with the only exception being to eventual national champion Florida State in the 2013 Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game.
• The Blue Devils have scored 21 points in both second quarters this season.
• With
Anthony Boone's 30-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, Duke has scored at least one ground TD in 18 of the last 19 games.
• The Blue Devils have also surpassed 120 rushing yards in 16 of the last 18 contests.
• In the last two games, Duke has gained 457 total rushing yards. In the last three games, the Blue Devils have produced 691 ground yards, an average of 230.33 per contest.
• Duke did not commit a turnover for the second straight game, a first for the program since Oct. 27 (Florida State) and Nov. 3, 2012 (Clemson).
• The Blue Devils tallied 25 first downs after having 31 last week. In the last three games, Duke has averaged 28.33 first downs per contest.
• The Blue Devils returned one kickoff for 61 yards in the contest. This year, Duke has averaged 39.75 yards per kickoff return.
- Duke ranked 12th among FBS programs in average kickoff return yardage in 2013 with 24.72 yards per kick.
• The Blue Devils went two-for-three on fourth-down conversions. In the last three games, Duke is 10-of-13 on fourth down attempts.
