ORLANDO, Fla. – In the second tournament of the 2014-15 campaign, the seventh-ranked Duke women's golf team opened with a five-over-par, 293, and sits tied eighth overall at the Annika Intercollegiate, which is being played at the 6,247-yard, par 72 Watson Course at the Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla.
Arizona opened with an eight-under-par, 280, Sunday and leads by two strokes over South Carolina (282). Northwestern (286), Stanford (286), Oklahoma State (287), Southern California (287), Alabama (292), Arizona State (293), Duke (293), UCLA (295), Pepperdine (295) and Vanderbilt (300) rounded out the field.
Playing in her first collegiate tournament of the season, junior
Celine Boutier led the Blue Devils with a one-under-par, 71, Sunday as she carded three birdies on the day. A product of Montrouge, France, Boutier opened her day with back-to-back pars before she suffered a bogey on the 130-yard, par three third hole. She went on to play the next 12 holes at three-under-par with birdies on No. 5, No. 9 and No. 14. A bogey on the 17th hole dropped her back to one-under-par for the day, which is tied for 11th. For the day, Boutier hit 15 greens, 14 fairways and had 32 putts.
Wanasa Zhou of Arizona and Justine Dreher of South Carolina turned in four-under-par rounds of 68 and holds the individual lead after day one.
Freshman
Leona Maguire posted an even-par, 72, and is tied 20th with 36 holes remaining. Maguire, who is from Cavan, Ireland, totaled a par, birdie and bogey over her first three holes to start the day. She was solid over the next 14 holes playing one-under-par with a birdie on the 520-yard, par five eighth hole. Maguire suffered a bogey on the 18th to close the round.
Coming off winning her first collegiate tournament at the Cougar Classic to open the season, sophomore
Sandy Choi posted a one-over-par, 73, in round one and is tied 28th. Choi, who hails from Seoul, South Korea, registered four straight pars to open the round, but then suffered a bogey on No. 5. She rolled in a birdie on the 337-yard, par four sixth hole to get back to even par. Choi bogeyed No. 7 and No. 9 to move to two-over-par as she made the turn. After six consecutive pars on the back nine, Choi carded back-to-back birdies to move back to even par. She closed with a bogey on No. 18. For the day, Choi hit 15 greens, 12 fairways and had 34 putts.
Freshman
Lisa Maguire posted a five-over, 77, on day one and is tied 49th overall. The native of Cavan, Ireland, had a solid start with a one-under-par ledger through four holes, which included a birdie on the third hole. Over the final 15 holes, Maguire suffered six bogeys.
Junior
Yi Xiao played her final nine holes at two-over-par, but turned in an 80 Sunday. The native of China totaled a birdie on the 480-yard, par five 14th. She hit five fairways, six greens and had a team-best 26 putts.
