DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's lacrosse team has been selected No. 6 in Inside Lacrosse's 2015 Face-Off Yearbook preseason rankings, as released by the publication Tuesday, Dec. 9. The Blue Devils are coming off of the program's 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014.
2014 NCAA champion Maryland headlines the Division I preseason poll, followed by North Carolina, Florida, Syracuse and Virginia. Six ACC squads are ranked inside the top 10, including Duke at No. 6, Boston College at No. 7 and Notre Dame at No. 9. Ten opponents on the Blue Devils' 2015 schedule, announced Monday by head coach Kerstin Kimel, appear in the initial top 20 rankings.
Inside Lacrosse also released its list of Preseason All-Americans Tuesday, Dec. 10, with four Blue Devils appearing on the list. Senior attacker Kerrin Maurer earned a spot on the first team, with senior defender Gabby Moise and senior midfielder Taylor Trimble appearing on the third team and junior goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea on the honorable mention list.
Duke posted an 11-8 record in 2014 and concluded the season ranked eighth in both the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse final polls. The team also advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the 10th consecutive season. The program returns 25 letterwinners and eight starters from a year ago, including Maurer, who garnered IWLCA All-America, All-South Region and All-ACC recognition in 2014, and Trimble, an All-South Region and All-ACC selection last spring.
The Blue Devils will hold a preseason scrimmage against Towson Jan. 31 in Durham before kicking off the 2015 campaign at Elon Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
