DURHAM, N.C. -- Freshman Jahlil Okafor was named Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game in leading Duke to home wins over Furman and Army.
The Chicago, Ill., native continued his offensive efficiency, going 20-of-28 (.714) from the floor for the week. Okafor recorded his first career 20-point game against Furman, finishing with 24 points to go along with seven rebounds (four offensive), three assists and two blocks. He made his final 12 shots from the field and finished 12-of-14 (.857) overall.
In the win over Army, Okafor collected 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 from the free throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds, including six offensive boards, in the win. Okafor has now scored in double figures in all seven games this season and is averaging 17.7 points per game on 63.6 percent (56-of-88) shooting.
